The re-tuned powertrain of the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata has been enhanced on the fronts of performance and efficiency. In fact, the model manages to extract an extra 26 horsepower from the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. Mazda achieves this boost in power with a new exhaust system, improved combustion and reduced internal mass and friction, among other adjustments. The redline also gets raised from 6,800 rpm to 7,500 rpm, thanks mostly to a lighter set of pistons and connecting rods. An aluminum steering shaft replaces the previous model’s steel steering shaft, leaving the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata 7 pounds heavier than its predecessor.
