Which Mazda vehicles can get the smartphone upgrade?
When Mazda announced that it would be offering owners who purchased or leased the 2018 Mazda6 a chance to have their existing infotainment systems retrofitted with new technology, we definitely heard from a lot of our loyal readers. While a bulk of the calls were asking about how it would affect that specific vehicle in their driveway, we still had quite a few ask, ‘Which Mazda vehicles can get the smartphone upgrade?’ At first, it appeared that only the Mazda6 would be eligible, but something changed. Another update from our manufacturing partnered has revealed that almost any Mazda vehicle with the MAZDA CONNECT™ infotainment system can get be eligible for the upgrade. Let’s learn more.
How much does the upgrade cost?
Depending on which Mazda vehicle you currently have will dictate how much getting this upgrade will cost you out-of-pocket. The 2018 models of the Mazda3 (purchased after Oct. 1) and Mazda6 will have Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ capability included at the Touring trim and above. Buyers or owners of the 2019 Mazda CX-5 and Mazda CX-9 can expect the same thing. However, if you have the Sport trim of any of those models, you can choose to have the smartphone compatibility added, but it will carry a cost of $199 plus labor.
Any 2018 Mazda3 (sedan or hatchback) models that you took home before Oct. 2 will also have to pay the aforementioned costs.
What if I own an older Mazda?
Do you love the Mazda vehicle you bought a few years ago? Do you want to be able to use your favorite smartphone apps, but you don’t want to buy or lease a new vehicle? There is an option for someone in your situation as well. If you already own a 2014 or new Mazda vehicle, and it has MAZDA CONNECT™, you can also have this available upgrade. It will cost you the same $199 plus labor fee, however.
