Can I have Android Auto™/Apple CarPlay™ added if I already bought a Mazda6?
It’s not uncommon for an automaker to upgrade a vehicle’s available equipment after a model year is launched. However, it is fairly uncommon for a manufacturer to make these upgrades and improvements available as retrofitted equipment. If you’ve already purchased or leased a 2018 Mazda6, you can make an appointment with the Gwatney Mazda of Germantown Service Department to have this new technology installed.
If you own a 2018 Mazda6 in the Touring trim or above, the experts at our service department will be able to install the necessary software update that will make Apple CarPlay™ or Android Auto™ available to owners. This new software will allow drivers and passengers to use most, if not all of their favorite applications to be used while they’re on the road. This includes apps for hands-free calling and messaging, as well as for navigation and entertainment – like streaming music or listening to audiobooks and podcasts.
What else comes with the MAZDA CONNECT™ upgrade?
Most automakers would be content to just upgrade the software and move on with life. However, Mazda is not most automakers and goes an additional step. In addition to being able to pair the most popular smartphone platforms to its infotainment system, Mazda is also offering a more efficient way to keep those devices charged. One of the other components of the upgrade is the addition of a more powerful and faster-charging 2.1-amp USB port.
How long does the upgrade take?
According to Mazda, the process to upgrade the MAZDA CONNECT™ software and the USB port should take about two hours. You will need to schedule an appointment with us to have this done, as an over-the-air update isn’t possible at this time. We know nobody wants to be stuck without their vehicle at all — so our team will work as quickly as possible to complete it. Most importantly, this upgrade can be done at no cost to owners
