How To Earn an IIHS Top Safety Pick Award and Rating

To earn the coveted IIHS Top Safety Pick award, vehicles must undergo a battery of rigorous crash tests – Driver-Side Small Overlap Front, Moderate Overlap Front, Side, Roof Strength, Head Restraints and the Passenger-Side Small Overlap Front test. Vehicles must earn a Good rating in the first five tests and a Good or Acceptable rating in the tough-to-beat Passenger-Side Small Overlap Front test. In addition to collision tests, award-winning entries must earn an Advanced or Superior rating in Front Crash Prevention tests and a Good or Acceptable rating in Headlight tests.
