But when it comes to making sure a driver and his or her passengers are feeling ok, technology hasn’t quite kept up with automotive technology. The best ways to avoid motion sickness in a vehicle involve making some choices before and after someone gets in a vehicle. We surveyed some of the experts working in the Gwatney Mazda of Germantown to find out how they avoid getting car sick. (more…)

Mazda’s rotary engine was just a bit ahead of it’s time

Is Mazda bringing back the rotary engine?

A few weeks ago, we came across a story about how Mazda has renewed the paperwork to hold the trademark on the RX-8 model name. This sparked a flurry of rumors and speculation across internet forums that the automaker was going to bring it back into production, hopefully with the revolutionary Wankel rotary engine. So, is Mazda bringing back the rotary engine? Not in the foreseeable future. However, a recent article posted on the Road and Track website posits something very interesting. Possibly coincidentally, this article also reminded us of something we read from Mazda a few months ago regarding their efforts to build electric vehicles or something with renewable fuels. Let’s take a look. (more…)

How safe is the 2019 Mazda CX-5?

For the new model year, the latest version of the Mazda’s second-largest crossover SUV has impressed Gwatney Mazda of Germantown customers with its impressive new technology. And as much as we love talking about the new features the vehicle has available, we can’t overlook what it has to offer in terms of passenger protection. So, how safe is the 2019 Mazda CX-5? Well, it’s about the best a customer could reasonably ask for within this highly-competitive class of the automotive industry. Earlier this month, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the 2019 Mazda CX-5 its highest designation, Top Safety Pick+. The non-profit safety agency increased the threshold for vehicles to get the all-important ‘plus’ rating. Let’s take a look at how what the IIHS had to say. (more…)

Texting while driving isn’t expressly illegal, but it’s still not safe

Is it illegal to text and drive in Tennessee?

One of our favorite features to show new Gwatney Mazda of Germantown customers is the outstanding connectivity technology offered by many new Mazda sedans and crossover SUVs. The feature that seems to impress the most people is how easy it is to connect today’s most popular smartphones to the MAZDA CONNECT™ infotainment system. After we show how easy this is, the first question that is usually asked is, ‘Is it illegal to text and drive in Tennessee?’ Unfortunately, the answer is both yes and no. Under a state law passed nearly 10 years ago, a driver (who doesn’t have graduated or probationary license) can send or receive a text message, as long as the vehicle isn’t in motion. Let’s take a look at other information you might find useful. (more…)

Is Mazda adding a new sports car to the lineup?

It’s pretty easy to understand how the people working as product experts at Gwatney Mazda of Germantown became huge Mazda fans. With that, more than a few of them actually spend some of their downtime reading the news and other articles about what may or may not be coming down the pipe from the automaker. A recent article has caught our attention that stated Mazda has chosen to renew its trademark for the MX-6 model name. Does this mean Mazda is adding a new sports car to the lineup? Obviously, we don’t know for sure, but at this point, it doesn’t seem likely. Let’s take a look at what we know at this point in the game. (more…)

Should I put nitrogen in my tires?

If we were to ask, what is inside your car’s tires, everyone would answer air. But did you know that air isn’t the only option? Some people go a different route and choose a different gas on which to ride. So, should you put nitrogen in your tires? That depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. Proponents of filling a vehicle’s tires with nitrogen are quick to point out its advantages, while critics of the practice say it’s not always worth the extra cost. Let’s take a look at what the experts working at the Gwatney Mazda of Germantown have to say. You should always follow the recommendations laid out in your vehicle’s owner’s manual, but feel free to stop by the shop if you’re looking for another opinion. (more…)

What’s different for the 2019 Mazda3?

Mazda made very efficient use of its time on stage at the kick-off for the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show last week when they introduced the 2019 Mazda3. For as much information about the newest compact sedan and hatchback that was made available, the manufacturer still left out a few important details. It took our product experts a bit of time to read through all of the available information to find out what is different for the 2019 Mazda3. Suffice it to say that when the 2019 Mazda3 is finally available at Gwatney Mazda of Germantown next year, future owners will be in store for a more connected, refined and, overall, enjoyable ownership experience versus last year.
